Enzymes
Enzymes are proteins and are essential to life. They are protein taken from food and made by bodies. They must be present before any chemical reaction can take place in our bodies. Even vitamins, minerals, and hormones cannot do their jobs without enzymes. They are the catalysts, the dynamic power that gives us our ability to function at the highest level of good health.
The human immune system depends upon the proper amount of enzymes to function properly. Our bodies cannot exist without enzymes. Every individual is born with a fixed amount of enzyme. Dr. Edward Howell, the father of enzymes, referred to this as the "enzyme bank". The body requires outside and frequent deposits to the enzyme account in the form of fresh foods. Unfortunately, the more processed our foods become and the more carbonated drinks, caffeine, hormones, Antibiotics, etc, we ingest the more strain they put upon the enzyme bank account.
There are 2 different classes of enzymes that occur naturally in the body: digestive enzymes, which break down and digest food, and metabolic enzymes, which regulate all other physical processes. To "digest" enzymes into our "enzyme bank", we must eat a variety of foods containing enzymes for different bodily functions.
Food enzymes are present in raw foods, and are usually just sufficient to help the body digest that particular food. They are destroyed by cooking. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures over 118 degree. This is mainly how our modern food processing techniques effectively eliminates the enzymes our body requires to live.
Further, so called fresh vegetables and fruits (which are often picked green for transportation and storage purposes) lack the required enzymes for proper metabolism.
